Passed away Thursday evening, May 8, 2003 at LakeView Continuing Center, Lawton. Thelma was born August 20, 1910 in Newaygo County, the son of the late Emery and Maude (Cook) Harter. She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church of Big Rapids. Thelma moved to Paw Paw in 1994 to be with her family. On May 11, 1930 in Barton Twp., Thelma was united in marriage to Alfred Nelson who preceded her in death in October of 1978. A sister, Susan Fortin and a brother, George Harter, also preceded her in death. Surviving are 3 daughters, Wilma Neely of Sparta, MI, Joan Fitcombe of Lowell, MI and Margaret Anderson of Paw Paw, MI; 2 sons, Donald (Betty) Nelson of Paris, MI and Duane (Debbie) Nelson of Paw Paw; 17 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends Monday, May 12, 2003, noon till 1 p.m. at the Mohnke Funeral Home, 128 S. Warren Ave., Big Rapids where service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. C. William Weis of Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw officiating. Interment will be in Hungerford Cemetery, Big Rapids, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Big Rapids, Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw or the American Cancer Society.
