Passed away Wednesday February 5, 2003 at Alamo Nursing Home. Jere was born January 18, 1909 in Battle Creek, MI where he grew up the son of Fredrick N. and Mary E. (Mohoney) Slayton. He worked for IPI – International Printers Ink, the Grand Trunk Railroad of Battle Creek, Cadillac Boat Company of Cadillac, MI and retired from Shakespear Rod and Reel Co. in Kalamazoo in 1974. He had enjoyed his retirement very much traveling to Florida and Texas for the winters for many years. He also enjoyed dancing and playing pool. He was married to Alice M. (Way) Slayton for 27 years until her death on January 4, 1960. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and two sisters, John, William, Robert, Fredrick, Joseph and Martha and Katherine Slayton. Surviving are his children, Joseph (Joan) Slayton of Midland, MI, Martha (Kenneth) Merriam of Paw Paw and Michael (Terry) Slayton of Vicksburg, MI; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. As per his request there will be no visitation. A memorial services will be held later in the spring. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hearing Impaired.
