Our beloved sister and aunt went to be with our Lord on February 19, 2003 at LakeView Community Hospital, Paw Paw. Irene was born June 27, 1943 in Neustadt, Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Emilia (Merkneris) Toliusis. Irene spent her life in Almena and Paw Paw graduating from Paw Paw High School in 1964, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw. Irene prided herself on her collecting and the stores will miss her. She was always there to take care of her mom and numerous nieces and nephews. Surviving are 6 sisters, Gertruda (John) Zabukas of Darien, IL, Helena (Sam) Schaafsma of Paw Paw, Aldona Gabro of Willow Springs, IL, Alma (John) Breitenbach of Paw Paw, Erika Toliusis of Paw Paw, Betty (Cliff) Rierson of Austin, TX; 2 brothers, Al (Kathy) Toliusis of Grover, MO, Vete (Linda) Toliusis of Paw Paw; 25 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Bruno Toliusis and niece, Debbie Schaafsma. Friends will be received Friday 6-8 with a Vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated, Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw. Interment will be in Almena Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
