Passed away Wednesday morning, February 12, 2003 at Metron of Bloomingdale. George was born April 9, 1925 in Chicago, IL the son of John and Ruth (Linden) Griesmaier who preceded him in death. George was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Edward, two sisters, Ruth Ann Bierhalter and Mary Kohlhoff of Battle Creek. George served in the U.S. Army with the 11th Airborne, in Japan. George and Ruth lived in Glendale for 56 years and did trucking most of his life and was employed at the State Hospital in Kalamazoo for 23 years retiring in April of 1988. George will be remembered for his great sense of humor and for being a friend to anyone who needed a helping hand including the Lawrence Garden Club. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw, of which he was a very active member with the church choir, Trinity Kids at Heart and as church custodian. He was lovingly called “Grandpa George” by the young school children while he was custodian. On October 15, 1944 in Paw Paw, George was united in marriage to the former Ruth E. Kirby who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Larry Paul (Cynthia) Griesmaier of Grand Rapids, MI, Robbyn C. Perry of Bloomingdale and Lynda R. (Robert) Campbell of Paw Paw; 4 grandchildren, Darryl and Gregory Torrey, and Jayson and Jennifer Griesmaier; great grandson, Zachery Brewer; brother, John (Lolita) Griesmaier of Schaumburg, IL; aunts, Esther Konertz of Florida and Mollie Hanson of Illinois; brother-in-law, Neil Kohlhoff of Battle Creek; nieces, nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw with Rev. C. William Weis officiating. Inurnment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Paw Paw. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund or Trinity Kids at Heart.
