Passed away Sunday morning, March 23, 2003 at LakeView Continuing Care Center, Lawton. Ken was born August 7, 1912 in Wakelee, MI the son of the late Edwin and Lillie (Brown) McKenzie. He was a graduate of Marcellus High School Class of 1932 and the Mueller Barber College. He opened a Barber Shop in Lawton in 1933 and then moved to Paw Paw in 1934. In 1942 he joined the Auxiliary Military Police moving to Howell, MI and returning to Paw Paw in 1945 when he started McKenzie Insurance. He was a Village of Paw Paw Council member and member and past officer of the Lakeland Florida Shuffle Board Club where he was ranked 9th in the world as a shuffleboard player. He was a past dad advisor for the Order of Demolay for Boys. Ken was a member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, Past Master of the Paw Paw-Lawton Masonic Lodge # 25 F&AM, member of the Paw Paw Chapter of the O.E.S. On June 18, 1934 in Cassopolis, MI, Ken was united in marriage to the former Leona M. Rifenberg who preceded him in death on Sept. 31, 2001. His parents, 4 brothers, Ray, Philo, Russell and Howard, 3 sisters, Elsie, Lizzie Clair, and Mary also preceded Ken in death. Surviving area a son and spouse, Tommy L. and Nancy McKenzie and a daughter, Darlene McKenzie all of Paw Paw; 2 grandsons, Bradley L. McKenzie of Paw Paw and Randy L. McKenzie of Naperville, IL; sister, Ilah Essex of Three Rivers; several nieces and nephews; 2 brothers-in-law, Eugene Rifenberg and Glenn Rifenberg. Family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the new location of the ADAMS Funeral Home, 502 W. Michigan Avenue, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2003, 11 a.m. at the Paw Paw United Methodist Church with Rev. Carolin Spragg officiating. Interment will be in Marcellus Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paw Paw United Methodist Church or the Paw Paw-Lawton Masonic Lodge # 25 F&AM.
