Passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at home. Edgar was born December 21, 1936 in Bendon, MI the son of late Alger and Sarah (Amidon) Gokey. Edgar enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves for 7 years. He was employed by the Canadian Pacific Railroad and worked in asphalt for many years before becoming owner/operator of Gokey Asphalt for 31 years. Edgar enjoyed gardening and having breakfast and afternoon visits with his friends at Tea Pot East, also he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going to the casinos and playing practical jokes. On October 21, 1955 in Detroit, Edgar was united in marriage to the former Geraldine Miehlke who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Donna (Tom) Kidd of Lawton, Deanna Gokey of Mattawan; 2 sons, Dennis and David Gokey both of Mattawan; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer, Billy, and Bradley Kidd, Kaitlyn Gokey, Haleigh and Garrett Gokey; 1 great grandson, Nicholas (Kidd) Siegel; 2 brothers, Rolland Gokey of Honor, MI and John Gokey of Wayland; 4 sisters, Ada Hart, Lorena Scholz, Catherine Bright, Ordie Maxine Boss; aunt, Lenore Amidon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Raymond Rose, Ralph Dexter, Earl Gokey, and Almon Gokey; 1 sisters, Bernice Emerick; nephew, Roy Lee Malone. Friends are being received Thursday 6-8 pm at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw where services will be held Friday at 2 pm with Rev. Carolin Spragg, Officiating. Interment will be in Almena Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice.
