Died Peacefully Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at his home. James was born April 8, 1929 in Athens, GA the son of Willie and Cora (Wiley) Payne. James was a member of the Paw Paw Eagles Lodge AERIE # 4310. On January 17, 1963 in Lawerence, James was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Grimm who preceded him in death on May 11, 2003. Surviving are 3 sons, William Payne of Lawton, Larry (Lori) Carfield of Decatur, Jim Carfield of Dillwyn, VA; daughter, Laura (Robert) Cochran of Lawton; several grandchildren; and great grandchildren; 5 brothers; 1 sister. A brother, Johhn Payne preceded him in death. A celebration of life memorial service will held Wednesday 11 a.m. at the Lawton Evangelical Mennonite Church, with Pastor Mike Rice, Officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
