Passed away Sunday evening, June 29, 2003 at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. Alma was born September 25, 1939 in Naumestis, Lithuania, the daughter of Joseph and Emilia (Merkneris) Toliusis. Her family endured World War II in war torn Germany reaching the U.S. by 1951. Alma became a US citizen in 1967. She was proud to be an American, took to heart the strength and courage of family and understood the devotion and commitment to church. Alma was the daughter we wish we had, the sister that held the common ground, the wife whose love now becomes guidance for the soul, the mother of caring and strength, and grandmother of endurance and fond memories. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw. She married John Breitenbach on June 24, 1961 in Paw Paw and raised four children, Jim (Sandy) Breitenbach of Gobles, Julie (Mark Mikesell) Breitenbach of Ypsilanti, Andy Breitenbach of Mattawan and Ted (Betsy) Breitenbach of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Noel, Emilia, Joe, Maggie, Caleb and Sophie. Alma was the seventh of eleven siblings, survived by seven; Gertrude (John) Zabukas of Darien, IL, Helen (Sam) Schaafsma of Paw Paw, Aldona Gabro of Willow Springs, IL, Al (Kathy) Toliusis of Grover, MO, Erika Toliusis of Paw Paw, Betty (Cliff) Rierson of Austin, TX and Vyte (Linda) Toliusis of Paw Paw. She was preceded in death 2 sisters, Emilia and Irene and a brother, Bruno. Family will receive friends Friday 4-7 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School.
