DORSTEWITZ, Eleanore R.
Kalamazoo ~ Formerly of Paw Paw
Passed away Sunday afternoon, June 29, 2003 at Tendercare of Kalamazoo. Eleanore was born March 17, 1914 in Ann Arbor, MI the daughter of Ellery and Ruth (Allmendinger) Schmidt. She was a graduate of Michigan State University and was a Home Economics Teacher in Paw Paw, Mattawan and Lawrence, and retiring in 1970 as coordinator of the school lunch program at Paw Paw High School. She dedicated her life serving her community by running the Blood Mobile Program for many years and until recently knitting caps for newborns at LakeView Hospital in Paw Paw where she served many years as a volunteer with the LakeView Auxiliary and Gray Ladies. Eleanore was a member of the Paw Paw United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Past Matron of the Paw Paw-Lawton Chapter # 257 O.E.S.; Paw Paw Coterie Club, and Van Buren County Retired School Personnel. On June 24, 1939 in Ann Arbor, Eleanore was united in marriage to Frances G. Dorstewitz who preceded her in death on October 21, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Timothy and 4 sisters. Surviving are 3 daughters, Ellen Neiman of Tucson, AZ, Mary (Bob) Cochrane of Omaha, NE and Ruth (Jim) Westcott of Paw Paw; 3 grandchildren; 1great grandson; sister, Patricia Ann Haskell of Kincheole, MI, many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Emily Dorstewitz of Kalamazoo. Family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw where an Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m. under the auspices of the Paw Paw-Lawton Chapter # 257. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Paw Paw with Rev. Carolin Spragg officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paw Paw United Methodist Church.

I am sorry to hear this news. My daughter were neighbors, when they lived in Paw Paw in Vintage Apartments. I remember them fondly.

My condolences to you upon Eleanor's passing. I wanted to let you know that I am sure that my folks, Judy (Hartman) and Ron Schincariol, would have attended services but they are out of state until the end of this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
