Passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 8, 2003 at LakeView Community Hospital, Paw Paw. Hazel was born January 1, 1912 on the family farm in Almena Twp. the daughter of the late Eric and Hattie (Wilson) Blocker. She spent many happy years around Blocker’s Pond and attended elementary school in Almena District #3, a one room school. She then entered Paw Paw High School and graduated with the class of 1928. While a senior in high school she began working part time at the Van Buren County Abstract Office in Paw Paw and then full time after graduation. On June 14, 1959 was Hazel’s retirement Party for 51 years of employment but continued to work part time and acquired 55 years in that employment. She was a member of the Gleaners, A.A.R.P., the Paw Paw Coterie Club and loved to play golf. In January of 1935 she was united in marriage to Charles L. Avery who preceded her in death on September 4, 1976. Surviving are a brother and spouse, Robert and Madeline Blocker of Paw Paw. Family will receive friends Friday evening 6-8 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw. As per Hazel’s request there will be no services. Interment will be in Almena Cemetery. Memorial contributions may me made to charity of choice.
