Passed away peacefully Tuesday afternoon, November 4, 2003 at Wood Hills Assisted Living in Kalamazoo. Alice was born April 6, 1918 in Antwerp Township the daughter of the late Tony and Mary (Zurowski) Pendowski. For many years Alice was a foster mother, and in her later years she sponsored a child from World Vision. She was a domestic housekeeper in the Paw Paw area for many years and took an active interest in nature. She enjoyed watching the many birds and wild animals that visited her backyard, as well as nurturing her cats and dog. On January 25, 1940 in Valparaiso, IN Alice was united in marriage to Joseph Witek who preceded her in death on May 5, 1984. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Edwin and Chester Pendowski and a sister, Kay Capriolonne. Surviving are 2 sons, James (Sandra) Witek of Kalamazoo and Paul (Colleen) Witek of El Paso, TX; 5 granddaughters, Suzanne (Rick) Meyer of Scotts, MI, Kelly Jo (David) Whipple of Scotts, Kate (Brandon) Shuring of Mendon, Ann Marie (Christopher) Witek of Houston, TX and Kristina (Joseph) McCoy of El Paso TX.; great grandchildren, Erich and Rae Carlson of Scotts, MI., Brittney and Austin Whipple of Scotts, MI, Megan and Jessica Rayburn of Houston, TX, Zachary Paige of Houston, TX, Johnathan McCoy and Stepehanie Alice McCoy of El Paso, TX; 2 sisters, Eleanor Staniszewski and Louise Owsiany both of Paw Paw; many nieces and nephews; dear friend Elsie White of Paw Paw. Family will receive friends Thursday 5-7 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at St. John Bosco Church in Mattawan. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Bosco Chuch or Borgess Visiting Nurse and Hospice Services.
