RODEN, Garnell O.

Mattawan

Passed away Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the Battle Creek V.A. Medical Center. Jerry was born April 3, 1939 in Danville, AL the son of Grady and Edith (Gibson) Roden. Jerry was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Full Gospel Assembly Church, Hartford. “Uncle” was his nickname given to him because he was always playing a game that involved a handshake, and would not let go until his nieces & nephews would say “Uncle”. He loved the beauty of the outdoors and the changing of the seasons especially autumn. Jerry enjoyed fishing on Three Mile Lake and country drives with James F. Haynes his brother in law who in fact was the brother he never had. Uncle Garnell O. Roden will be greatly missed. He is survived by a son, Thomas (Mara) Roden of Kalamazoo; 2 granddaughters, Olivia and Haileigh Roden; mother, Edith Mitchell of Kalamazoo; sister Delia (James) Haynes of Mattawan; nieces, Delilah, Laurie, Carol, Angela, Sherri, Dawn and Marsha; nephews, Bryon, James, Leon, and Maylon. Special mention to his great nieces Aeva and Amelia for all their loving consideration, and to his friend and cousin, Hollis (Arlene) Roden. Jerry was preceded in death by a sister Joyce Heflin. Graveside services will be held Monday, 10:30 am at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Full Gospel Assembly Church.
