Caryl “Chris” Bogen Quinn
Paw Paw
Caryl, as she was known to some, Chris to most, was born October 12th, 1940 in Green Bay, WI, and died Monday, April 5th, in Paw Paw, MI due to complications of cancer.
She spent most of her life in the Midwest: as a child with her family in various cities in the Great Lakes area, and Kalamazoo in her later years. In between, she spent time in Lancaster, CA, located in the high-desert region of Southern California.
Chris graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1958. She attended Lawrence College and Michigan State University, where she met Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Quinn. They wed in February of 1962 and moved to Los Angeles where they made their home until the fall of 1964 when they moved to Lancaster, CA.
Chris spent her early married years as a homemaker and loving mother to her four children. Once her children were older, Chris returned to school where she earned her degree and then went to work at H&R Block as the District Manager for the Antelope Valley region. After her divorce in 1981, Chris spent several more years in Lancaster before moving to Racine, WI, where she was the H&R Block District Manager for the Racine/Kenosha area.
Later, Chris relocated back “home” to Kalamazoo where she could be closer to her siblings and family friends. Chris was employed by, and spent many years working for National City Bank in Kalamazoo.
Some of Chris’s best times were spent visiting with her children in various locales across the country, visiting her best friend Melody in Wisconsin, and spending time with her mother in Venice, Florida. Chris loved her grandchildren, and spent as much time as she could with them. Her interests included volunteering at the Junior Nationals tennis tournament, playing tennis, reading, attending Bronco’s hockey games, and participating in hot air balloon rallies out west.
Chris is survived by her mother, Frances Bogen, her brothers Paul (Marianne) Bogen, Lumberville, PA; David (Rhonda), Paw Paw, MI; and her children: Eric (Tara) Quinn and family of Boise, ID; Jennifer (Timothy) Davis and family of Valdosta, GA; Linda (Jeff) Vosburgh and family of Sandy, UT; and Jonathan (Sadie) Quinn and family of South Jordan, UT. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred Bogen, and sister, Barbara Brandt Quinn.
A memorial service will be held Friday, the 9th of April, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., at the First Congregational Church, 129 S. Park Street, Kalamazoo. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
