Passed away Saturday morning, April 24, 2004 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence, Kalamazoo. Harold was born February 9, 1918 in Kalamazoo, MI. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was then employed at the KVP Paper Co (James River) for over 41 years, retiring on April 1, 1981. He was a member of the United Paperworkers International Union Parchment Local 323, AFL-CIO and the Mattawan Masonic Lodge # 268 F&AM. Harold Loved Bowling, golfing and spending time at his cabin in Baldwin. On April 27, 1940 in Bryan, OH, Harold was united in marriage to the former Evelyn N. Maxam who survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Beverly (Jerry) Helms of Portage, Shirley (Jack) Plath of Decatur, and Lenor (Michael) O’Keefe of Dexter, MI; son, Dennis Hilbert of Kalamazoo; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Donald (Dorothy) Hilbert of Kalamazoo; sister, Lila Wheeler of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. Harold was preceded in death by his mother, Minerva (Lenardson) Hilbert; grandson, Mike Helms and 2 great grandchildren, Winter Helms and Justin M. Bennett II. Family will receive friends Monday 6-8 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw. A Masonic service will be held Tuesday, 1 p.m. under the auspices of Masonic Lodge # 268 F&AM. Interment will be in West Oshtemo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Rose Arbor Hospice Residence or the Mattawan Masonic Lodge.

Dad You have no idea how much you are missed, are world has change some much now that you are not with us anymore. We sure could use your comments on how we are handleing things, we all know that if you was with us today thing would be back on tract. But we know that you are with the Lord and he will keep you safe and you will be there for us when it is are turn, I pray we have not disappointed the Lord and you has you look down on us. I just wanted to say how much you have touched my life and i will miss you very much but i still feel your here I can still hear your voice like your with me. I know you loved me and were proud of me. I have no question, I am honored to be your grand-daughter. I love you!!! I just wasn't done with you yet, but I'm glad your not in pain anymore. I'm just being selfish for wanting you here. I have sooo many memories of you with me, and it feels real good to know you. Thank you for everything every thought, worry, just being there to hold, telling me you love me. Thank You Grandpa I love you, Breanne (Shelly)
