Maxine passed away Monday afternoon, December 20, 2004 at her home. Maxine was born May 24, 1914 in Mendon, MI the daughter of Fred and Gladys (Potter) Hughey. She was employed by the Gibson Guitar Company in Kalamazoo retiring in 1971. Maxine was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary Unit # 6248 in Decatur, MI. She loved crocheting pot holders and blankets, gardening, watching and feeding birds and squirrels, and especially caring for her dog Zeek. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald L. Hughey in 1970, a grandson Lonnie Wheatley and 2 brothers, Clare and Duke Hughey. Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Forrest) Darby of Estero, FL; son, Michael (MaryEllen) Vette of Lawton; 5 grandchildren, Tim (Laura) VanWyk of Fruitland Park, FL, Derek (Kelly) VanWyk of Paw Paw, Wesley Darby of Estero, FL, Shawnda (Craig) French of Mattawan, and Jason Vette of Lawton; 2 great grandsons, Garrett and Landyn VanWyk of Paw Paw. Family will receive friends Thursday 12 to 2 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lawton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mike and family we are so sorry for your loss. We loved her too and enjoyed the moments we spent with her. We will miss her phone calls and our drives in the country. She was a loving and giving person whose loss will be felt. Niece Sandy and husband Vern
