It was great hearing the stories about Grandpa yesterday. I will miss him a lot. I didn't get to spend that much time with him since Laurie and I liv 2.5 hours away but since I had met Laurie he has been my Grandpa too. He always treated me like one of the family. Both times we bought houses we always came up short of cash. Grandpa to the rescue both times! We paid him back...but he was a saviour in both instances. He lived a great life but we will miss him dearly. I remember one time about 10 years ago we were in Mattawan and popped in to see him. He went to the fridge and grabbed 2 beers and handed me one. He said he hadn't had a beer in years and thought what the heck! I'm 85 years old. I can have a beer! He was an inspiration to all who knew him.

Dear Janette, Darlene and the rest of the family,
As you know, your folks were very special to me. The memories go way back to my childhood, 4-H, church, then renting from them when we got out of the navy. Good memories. And yes, he was my tractor doctor, having worked on my Ford 8N as recently as a couple of years ago. I'd call him, and he'd come out and "tweak" the carburetor and she'd run just fine...Although I didn't go to see him enough, I did stop by about a week before he died and we had a nice visit. I am so thankful for that! We'll all miss him. Indeed a very special, kind and gentle, but no nonsense man.
Our deepest sympathy.

Dear Janette and Darlene, I am so sorry about the loss of your dad. I always loved my Uncle Matt. He had such a wonderful attitude and disposition. The world was definitely a better place because he was here. I am sorry that I won't be able to be there for the service, but my thoughts and prayers are with you. Love, Marilyn
