Passed away Friday morning, July 29, 2005 at his home. Merritt was born September 24, 1928 in Paw Paw the son of the late Albert and Nellie (Austin) Raymond. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force and was a truck driver for Coca Cola in Paw Paw retiring in 1996. Merritt loved animals and spending time with his family. On September 10, 1948 in Paw Paw, Merritt was united in marriage to the former Betty Jean Moon who survives. Also surviving are seven children, James (Shirley) Raymond of Paw Paw, Charlene (David) Treadway, Larry (Cindy) Raymond, Cathy (Ray) Piecyk, Betty Padgett, Merritt (Maureen) Raymond, and David Raymond all of Lawton; son-in-law, Kenneth Butler of Paw Paw; 19 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Cheryl Butler and Sherry Raymond; a brother, Arden Raymond and a sister, Bernice Williams. Family will receive friends Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Funeral service will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at the Lawton Evangelical Mennonite Church with Rev. Tim Gunderson and Tom Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lawton. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Van Buren County.
