Passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at LakeView Community Hospital, Paw Paw following a lengthy illness. Mel was born October 4, 1936 in Bark River the son of Clarence and Esther (Morin) Gauthier. Mel has been a Paw Paw resident for over 35 years, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force, he retired from General Motors as a tool and die maker. After retirement he worked for the Paw Paw Public Schools. Mel enjoyed the out doors, hunting and fishing, he also enjoyed spending time with friends. He was a member of the Paw Paw-Lawton Eagles Aerie #4310. On September 25, 1964 he was united in marriage to the former Judy M. Staniszewski who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Cynthia Shepard of Sherman Oaks, CA, Gina (Peter) Auld of New Lenox, IL; son, Matthew (Julie) Gauthier of Paw Paw; four grandchildren, Lydia, Kassandra, Nicholas and Xavier; sister, Nancy (Jerry) Steerman of Urbana, IL; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends will be received Friday 5-7 pm with a vigil service at 5:30 pm at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw, where services will be held Saturday 10 AM with Rev. Fr. Robert F. Creagan, Officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal’s Best Friend or charity of ones choice.
