Passed away Monday morning, Jan. 9, 2005 at Heartland Health Care Center in Kalamazoo. Roger was born June 9, 1917 in Spencerville, IN the son of late Charles and Gertrude (Shutt) Markle. Roger was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy. Roger was employed by Hercules Chemical Company retiring on January 1, 1980 and was a beef cattle farmer in Mattawan. He was a Life Member of the Mattawan Masonic Lodge # 268 F&AM, member of the Corinthian Chapter # 113 O.E.S., Portage and the Masonic Retirees Club of Kalamazoo. On February 25, 1939 in Albion, IN, Roger was united in marriage to Laura R. Doughman who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ellen Nash. Surviving are 2 sons, David (Lesley) Markle of Mattawan and James (Jane) Markle of Berrien Springs, MI; daughter, Deanna Munn of Vicksburg; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Harriet Markle of Elliston, MT; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Sunday, (1/15), 2:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, Mattawan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mattawan Masonic Lodge. I first met Roger when I became baseball commissioner for my son's little league, he's now 40, so I've known Roger along time. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. A very kind man.

Sorry to read of Roger's passing he was a very nice person. Enjoyed sitting in Mattawan Chapter of the OES with him.
