Passed away Saturday morning, May 27, 2006 at his home. Lloyd was born August 27, 1927 in Kalamazoo the son of the late Verne and Grace (Stanley) Smead. He completed 8th grade and stayed home to help his family when his older brother went off to serve during the Korean War. He gave 39 years of service to Georgia Pacific Paper (Formerly Kalamazoo Paper Co.) in several positions and retired in 1990. Lloyd was a great outdoors man, fisherman and hunter. Lloyd could be seen fishing most anytime with his best friend Archie Lahman, affectionately known as “the Grumpy Old Men.” Lloyd was a quiet man, but he loved his family and friends well. On December 8th, 1951 in South Bend, IN, Lloyd was united in marriage to Marian Reynolds (54 years) who survives. Together they raised 4 children, David (Monie) Smead, Otto (Alice) Smead of Paw Paw, Larry (Brenda) Smead of Stevensville and Kathryn (Patrick) Pitcher of Benton Harbor; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Nelson (Beverly) Smead of Matlacha, FL and Lyle (Dottie Wiker) Smead of Lawton; 3 sisters, LaVerna (Ken Kahler) Anderson of Schoolcraft, Kate (Sam) Bolen of Kalamazoo and Joan Breed of Paw Paw; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Leonard and Orville Smead; sister Vivian Romanak, 3 brothers-in-law, John Romanak, Arthur Anderson and Clifford Breed. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday (June 7) 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Horace Turner officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Maple Grove cemetery, Mattawan. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice or of charity of choice. Grandpa, for a man with little words your smile said it all. I will miss our talks and jokes or just hearing you laugh. I was very blessed to have you as a Grandpa and I will miss you more then words can say. I know you are now in a better place fishing with Archie and enjoying yourself. I will tell you one thing I will make sure Katie knows how wonderful her Great Grandpa Smead was.Until we meet agian know that you are loved and missed by all.

Pa:I will always miss your drive by the house,and your famous wave as you passed by.I will miss seeing you standing in your yard checking things out.You were a great father-in-law and a wonderful grandpa.You had a sweet smile and a big heart.If we needed anything,or wanted advice,you were always there.You will be missed by so many people!We are blessed to have had you in our lives.
