Alice passed away Tuesday morning, June 6, 2006 at her home. Alice was born in Indiana Harbor, Indiana on March 21 1920, to the late George and Margreta (Wiersbie) Farster. Her parents moved to Paw Paw at the beginning of the Great Depression. Alice attended Nazareth Nursing School and worked at Borgess Hospital before marrying Arthur Edward Guritz in 1941. The Farster family were founding members of Trinity Lutheran Evangelical Church (Paw Paw) of which she was a member. Mom loved the church and was always a contributing her many talents at Trinity, especially in her latter years with the Kids at Heart. She was a member of the church Martha Guild and also sang in the choir until she was unable to make her way up the stairs to the choir loft. For years she could be found in the kitchen cooking up a storm whenever there was a need. In her spare time, Mom enjoyed and was very accomplished at quilting, sewing and crocheting. All her kids and grandkids have been blessed with quilts and afghans. She also always had a great vegetable garden when space and time allowed, always "putting up" most of what she could. She also found time to participate with Farm Bureau in its early years, worked at Musselmans in Paw Paw, did home health care for many families in need and was considered a homemaker. Alice and Art had 10 children, 8 sons and their spouse, Ed (Penney Barrett), Tim (Jewel Peterson), Irv (Sharon Blomer), Paul (Jody Coulson), Jon (Shannon VerHage), Tom (Judy Drury), Phil (Sally Phetteplace), and Dan (Diana Edgerly); 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and will miss the births of 2 more expected this fall. Also surviving are a sister, Ruth Eastman of California; brother, Bob Farster of Washington; several nieces and nephews; also many godchildren that she helped to grow in the Lords ways. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur who went to be with the Lord on November 12, 1985; 2 daughters, Mary Sue (Guritz) Kalmbach on July 4, 2005 and Rose Guritz who died at birth; 2 brothers, George Farster, and Warren G. Farster; 2 sisters, Pearl Michael and an infant, Gloria. Family will receive friends Thursday, (June 8) 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Mark Whittaker officiating. Cremation will follow with interment of cremains in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church Kitchen Fund.
