Passed away Saturday evening, Sept. 2, 2006 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. Steve was born January 10, 1920 in Argo, Illinois, the son of the late Michael and Margaret (Bryla) Czuhajewski. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater as a radio operator with the 830th Engineer Battalion. He was a member and volunteer of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw. He was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion, McGowan-Johnson Post # 68, Paw Paw, and the Past Commander’s Club. He was instrumental in starting the American Legion Nursing Scholarship. Steve was employed by Tuttle Floral Company, Paw Paw and later in Mechanical Maintenance at Western Michigan University until his retirement in 1982. After retirement, Steve worked at The Shopping Center, Paw Paw. Steve loved hunting and gardening. On November 8, 1947 in Paw Paw Steve was united in marriage to Emily D. Grzetich who survives. Also surviving are a son, Stephen Cheski of Jacksonville, FL; 2 daughters, Linda (Gary) King of South Bend, IN and Donna (Dave) Barry of Kalamazoo; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; brothers, Adam (Lois) Czuhajewski, John (Mary) Czuhajewski and Thomas Czuhajewski all of Paw Paw; sisters, Cecelia (Gene) Roberts of Kalamazoo, Lottie Warner of Three Rivers and Theresa Kapka of Kalamazoo; many nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Stanley, Frank and Joseph; 2 sisters, Mary Czuhajewski and Genevieve Dzialowski. Family will receive friends Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a vigil service will be held Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Robert F. Creagan celebrant. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Paw Paw, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church Paw Paw or the Paw Paw American Legion Nursing Scholarship Fund.
