These memories that I have of Chuck McLean Is what I will always remember. We have been neighbors since 1974. I will remember him waving to me or Archie when we would pass each other on our street. He would wave to us from his house when we were outside and would shout a friendly hello and how are you doing? He and his wife Pat raised two great children together, there children played with my children on our street growing up.
One day on January 27, 1993 a friend of my son’s shot him self in my front yard. He was 16 years old. That day for some reason the 9-1-1 emergency number was not in working order and I said to my son run across the street and get Chuck, I knew he had training in an emergency situation. Chuck came running out the door of his house and started working on him and I continued dialing 9-1-1. I said Chuck the number is not working. He said call the sheriff department. While I was not able to think clearly, he just did what he was trained to do. Chuck McLain is the one who saved that boys life on that cold winter day.
That was not the end of his heroic behavior. One really hot day a few years ago, our dog Bud was running down our street with the neighbor kids and he got over heated and fell over. When Chuck found this out he came running down the street with oxygen and gave oxygen to my dog. As I seen him running towards us I remember thinking, (Oh no) I hope he knows it’s only a dog he is running for and not a person. (He knew) and it did not make a difference to him. After a few minutes Bud got up and started walking again. How many people would care enough or make an effort to save a dog. Mr. Chuck
McLean did.
I do not know why God wanted to take Chuck away from his loving family. What I do know is that God is in control of the situation, and God is now and will be forever a loving God and faithful God. His leaving this earth is not the end of his testimony. He will be with us through his wife Pat and his Children and there children and there children. Archie and I will miss him but we will see him every time we see his family.
Good bye for now and rest in peace.
Your neighbor
