Passed away Wednesday evening, July 18, 2007 at Springs of Bronson Place, Kalamazoo. Velma was born January 7, 1914 in Rose City, Michigan. She was the fourth of five children born to the late John H. and Dora L. (Talbot) Boreland. She was a Registered Nurse, and met Thomas K. Tobin, a Michigan State Police Trooper when he came to the hospital in need of care. They were married on August 1st, 1940 in Grayling, Michigan. They raised two daughters, who survive Velma; Judith Greenwell of Lakeland, FL and Jean VandenHout. In her later years, Velma and her husband also raised two granddaughters, Marcella Blodgett-Burnham and Pamela Blodgett-Selkirk, both of Kalamazoo. Velma was also the grandmother of five additional grandchildren; Debra Taylor and Julie Brinn both of Lakeland, FL, Jennifer VandenHout, David VandenHout and John Hummel of Evansville, Indiana; 12 great grandchildren, Elliot, Cameron, Madison, Lainey, Gabriel, Olivia, Regan, Jacob, Kara, Cole, Keirsten and Max. Velma was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw and enjoyed crocheting and taking care of others in her spare time. A memorial service will be held Saturday 12:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Robert F. Creagan officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Greater Kalamazoo. Arrangements are made by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
