George passed away Saturday morning, December 22, 2007 at his home. He was born May 22, 1917 in Oshtemo the son of the late Carl and Corabel (Soules) Berner. He was a veteran of World War II in the European Theater serving in the 8th Air Force on a B-17 as a bombardier for 28 missions. He owned and operated “Our Acres Bait Shop” on M-40 in Paw Paw for 53 years. George was united in marriage on January 6, 1946 in Paw Paw to Esther “Tootie” Norman who preceded him in death on June 26, 2001. He was also preceded in death by a son Thomas Berner. Surviving are a son, David (Pat) Berner of Paw Paw; two daughters, Peggy Coulson of Paw Paw and Julie Pryor of Paw Paw; many grandchildren, many many great grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the ADAMS Funeral Home, Paw Paw where funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m. with Pastor John Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Austin Cemetery, Waverly Township with military honors.

Julie and family. I was saddened to see that your father has passed away I have great memories of him and the old bait shop he sure did live up to his sign open 24hrs. He will be missed by many. I am sorry. George

Sorry for the loss... He is a famous person in all of southwest Michigan, and as a friend of his grandson.. I know he is going to be deeply missed.

Sorry I was unable to attend the funeral or viewing as I was out of town. David and I were First Cousins. Hope to hear from some of his children and grandchildren.
