Marilyn passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 31, 2008 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. She was born September 27, 1920 in Lawrence, MI, where she lived her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Leland and Eulah (Chase) Barnes. Marilyn graduated from the Borgess school of Nursing in 1942 and later worked as a registered nurse for the late Dr. Paul Boothby in Lawrence. On September 14, 1942 in Paw Paw Marilyn was united in marriage to Harold G. Simmons who preceded her in death on November 2, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas H. Simmons on July 12, 1996. Marilyn and her husband Harold owned and operated the H.G. Simmons and Son John Deere dealership in Lawrence until 1976. Marilyn was a member of the First Congregational Church of Bangor and the womens Mayflower Guild of the church. She was also member of the American Legion Auxiliary # 174. She was a volunteer for the Van Buren County American Red Cross in the office and also worked on the blood drives. She loved bird watching, flower gardening, playing bridge and spending time with her family at their summer cottage. Surviving are a daughter, Susan (George) Leach of Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Jane Simmons of Lawrence 4 grandchildren, Debora (Michael) McCaw of Mattawan, Steven (Lisa) Leach of Lawrence, Rebecca Simmons of Kalamazoo and Matthew Simmons of Lawrence; 7 great grandchildren, Kate, Patrick, Megan, Jim, Mary and John McCaw, and Kyle Leach; brother-in-law, John Nowicki of Texas; 2 nephews; and her faithful and loving dachshund Adolph. Family will receive friends Friday (Feb. 22nd) 5-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw . A memorial service will be held Saturday at (Feb. 23rd) 1 p.m. at The First Congregational Church of Bangor, with Pastor David Markel officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the Hill Cemetery Lawrence. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Bangor or the Lawrence Township Emergency Services. Arrangements are by the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
