MANUEL, Henry V.

Henry V. Manuel was born to the union of John Henry and KC (Stubbs) Manuel on August 21, 1932 in Oak Grove, Louisiana. He received his formal education at Wells High School in Chicago, Illinois, graduating 1952. As a child and throughout his life, Henry was known for his great sense of humor. In 1948, Henry relocated to Chicago, Illinois and obtained his first job at A&P. He worked for A&P for over 32 years. He was later employed by Coca Cola Bottling Company, retiring in 1996. On May 12, 1962, Henry was united in holy matrimony with Sadie Trotter in Chicago, Illinois. Their union was blessed with three daughters. Henry proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. Henry accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Terry, Louisiana and was baptized in a lake. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Kalamazoo and served as a Deacon. He was fondly known as the "Praying Deacon". He also participated in the Mentoring Program and was active with the Prison Ministry. In his leisure, he enjoyed toying with exotic yo-yos, loved doing puzzles, and watch boxing and football. The Lord called Henry home from labor to rest Wednesday evening, February 6, 2008. He was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Manuel and sister, Joyce Luckett. He leaves to celebrate his life, loving wife, Sadie Trotter; three devoted daughters, Sheila Gothard of Greensboro, NC, Sheray Manuel of Grand Rapids, MI and Sheletha Manuel of Greensboro, NC; two grandchildren, Aubrey and Ashley Gothard; two sisters, Edna Foulkes of Chicago, IL and Lizzie Gipson of Burbank, CA; adopted daughter, Dorothy (Andrew) Howard of Matteson, Il, two nieces, Dawn Michelle (Leo) Meadows of Junction City, KA and Vivian Renee Jones of Kansas City, KA; godson, Jarrett Mitchell of TN, long-time family friend, Pirley Bracken, and a host of other loving family and many dear friends.

To Henry's Family and Friends,
I am Sorry to hear of Henry's death. I worked with Henry at Coca-Cola, He was a kind man, enjoyed working with him. I especially rememeber the little pranks at Hallween time with his Wolf Mask and Paws.
My thoughts and Prayers are with you all.

I remember Henry from his Coca-Cola days. He was the kind of person who always made you feel better if you were having a down day and he was always good for a laugh. My condolences to his family and friends...he will be missed.
