Derek passed away Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo. He was born Dec. 21, 1977 the son of Beverly Betterley Alwood and Kelven Betterley. Derek loved movies, video games and was a true jokester. On September 9, 2000 in Kalamazoo Derek was united in marriage to Annie Marie Harrell who survives. Also surviving are his mother, Beverly (Jim) Alwood of Frankenmuth, MI; father, Kelven (Jan) Betterley of Huntertown, IN; brother, Danny (Denise) Betterley of Ceresco, MI; 5 step-sisters, Sarah, Tammy, Tina, Pam and Leanne; 2 nephews; several cousins and his best k-9 friend, Shelby. A memorial service will be held Thursday, 1 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Robert F. Creagan officiating. Interment of cremains will be in St. Marys Cemetery, Paw Paw. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
