Formerly of Fort Wayne, IN

Bettie passed away Sunday evening, July 6, 2008 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo with her family at her side. She was born Oct. 30, 1927 in Mounds, IL the daughter of the late Elmer and Emma (Roach) Skyles. Bettie was a graduate of Fenger High School and the Englewood Hospital School of Nursing. She was a Nursing Cadet at the end of World War II and her hobbies were painting and flower gardening. On Sept. 18, 1948 in Englewood, IL Bettie was united in marriage to Theodore Ted Major who survives. Following Teds retirement they moved to Paw Paw in 1988 from Fort Wayne, IN. Also surviving are 3 children, Gregory (Elaine) Major of Farmington Hills, MI, John Major of Paw Paw and Glenn (Usha) Major of Valparaiso, IN; 4 grandchildren, Carrie, Blake, Ajay and Maya; 3 great grandchildren, Caleb, Noah and Lauren; sister, Vivian Skyles of Rockaway Beach, MO; brother Alvin Skyles of Montgomery, IL; many nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 19th, 5 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Paw Paw. A luncheon and time with the family will be held at the church following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Memorial Gardens fund.
