Robert passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008 at Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bloomingdale after a lengthy illness. Robert was born Feb. 9, 1918, in Chicago, IL, the son of John J. and Mary Ann (Ross) Winski. He married Evelyn F. Idstein on April 11, 1942 in Chicago, IL. He was graduated from Lindbloom High School in Chicago in 1937. He enlisted in the famed Black Horse Troop, 106th Mounted Cavalry, in 1937 and was trained as a blacksmith. He served in the military until retiring as a Captain in the Illinois Air National Guard in 1977. Robert landed in Normandy on D-Day plus two and was honored for his service in the Battle of the Bulge. Robert worked for the Belt Railway Company of Chicago for 33 years, retiring in 1978 to move to Decatur. Robert is a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Paw Paw, life member of the Retired Officers Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Decatur Post 6248, and the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen/United Transportation Union. He is also a member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge. Robert is survived by his wife Evelyn, three sons, Robert L. (Mary Beth) of Durango, CO., James A. (Sue) of Hoffman Estates, IL, and Thomas E. (Bonnie) of Breeding, KY, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister (Virginia) and one granddaughter. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw where a rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 21, 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Paw Paw with military honors to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at Home, PO Box 990, South Haven, MI. A one-hour visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Ahlgrim and Son Funeral Home in Schaumburg, IL. Graveside services with military honors will follow at All Saints Cemetery in DesPlaines, IL.

My condolences go to Robert's wife Evelyn & the rest of his family. I did not hear about his passing until Tuesday afternoon otherwise I may have been able to attend the visitation this morning. I was a member of the Ill ANG while Robert was a member. May god be with you & yours.
