Emory passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 at the V.A. Medical Center in Battle. Creek, MI. He was born Nov. 20, 1918 in Elberton, GA the son of the late Robert and Lizzie Tate. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater, and was a member of the Celery City V.F.W. Post #6248, Decatur. He practiced law in Chicago from 1951 until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, was a prolific writer of poetry and loved farming and chess. Surviving are his wife Burnetta, 5 children, Emory Denise Brown of Macon, GA, Emory Andrew Tate Jr. of Chicago, Katherine Lelias of Irvine, Ca, Katrinka Trail of Antioch, CA and Elizabeth Diane Norwood of Munster, IN; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 3 sisters, Eloise Brooks of San Francisco, CA, Malaria Foster of Hammond, IN and Melvee Everhart of Dayton, OH; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. at the Emmanuel Church of God in Christ in Decatur with Elder Larry O. Herron officiating. Interment will be in Harrison Cemetery, Decatur with military honors.
