Kelli Renee Shults Click for Condolences      Printable Version
2001 - 2008

Kelli Renee ShultsKelli Renee was born into a life filled with love, on March 23, 2001, in Columbus. She was an easy baby and was content no matter where she was or what she had to play with. Often times she would fall asleep in her highchair, exhausted from a full day of play.

As soon as she could get mobile, her helper and caretaker instincts shown through. Kelli always wanted to take care of people and help with whatever activities were taking place. She loved working in the garden with Grandpa or sitting on the counter and helping Grandma cook a meal or bake cookies. Always looking forward to big projects, she helped Uncle Justin hang the Christmas Lights every year. She was also content to sit back and be a girlie girl and have her Aunt Kari braid her hair or paint her nails. She also loved playing Webkinz with Karen and sharing their love of kittens and cats.

Kelli always had a grown up appetite. As a baby she ate raw green peppers as if they were apples. She inhaled full meals of corn beef and cabbage. She not only enjoyed eating but cooking. Her play kitchen got a lot of use as she made meal after meal of whatever concoction her mind created that day.

As a 4 year old, Kelli began attending the Hugs and Hearts Day Care. She loved to play Marble Blast and Dance, Dance Revolution. Her time spent there was filled with writing and coloring. She recreated everything on her school walls to hang on her walls at home.

She was currently a second grader at Worthington Park Elementary School. Kelli loved school! Many memories were made with her special friends on field trips, at birthday parties, and at recess. She adored learning and reading and taking in new knowledge in any form. Kelli was a teacher at heart and could often be found seeking out other children in the classroom who might need help.

Like her mother, Kelli was an enthusiastic reader. As a baby, books were read to her at bedtime. As she grew she began to read the books to whoever was tucking her in at night. She loved Franklin books, Bernstein Bears, Baby Sitters Club Little Sister-The Karen Series, Junie B. Jones, and the Nancy Drew stories. She had just begun reading the Fudge Books by Judy Blume, laughing hysterically as she finished Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.

She truly loved the changing seasons. Kelli helped plant new flowers every spring, excited to see the colorful new sprouts as they came up. Spring also brought her birthday. Kelli was in her glory on her special day. Her mother always created a magical cake in the shapes of caterpillars, Pooh, Cinderella, Snow White, a fish, a castle, and a bunny.

Kelli reveled in summer and all the activities at Mill Lake. Swimming was second nature to her and she spent hours going back and forth between the shore and the raft. As she grew her tube rides increased in speed, but she adored taking new people for tube rides and she laughed so hard as they were thrown from the fast moving tube. Kelli gained a new level of responsibility this last summer when she sat in the captain seat and drove the boat unassisted.

As fall came, she was a giggly little girl as she jumped in huge piles of leaves. She talked and planned for her Halloween Costume each year and loved to show it off. However, her favorite time of year was winter. Kelli was in her element planning for the holidays. She looked forward to trekking through the rows of trees to find the perfect Christmas Tree. When the snow would fall she could not wait to get out and play in it. Christmas Morning she was always struck with wonder at the empty plate of Santa¼s cookies and she was then in charge of passing out the presents to everyone. She enjoyed sewing and creating presents for everyone. Kelli also enjoyed making clothing with her sewing machine.

On October 7, 2001, Kelli was baptized and began a life eager to learn about God and His love for her. She truly enjoyed church and her church friends of every age. Her home church became Gobles United Methodist Church and it became her mission to help in any way she could. Kelli was a busy worker at church dinners; she greeted folks coming for service and passed out bulletins. She was in Sunday School, sang in the choir, and rang the bells. God¼s word became new and amazing stories that she enjoyed reading and sharing.

She was a beautiful child, with the mind and attitude of a classy young lady. Her life was full of fun and love and happiness. Her seven years of life were lived fully and were more blessed than most people's are in a lifetime.

On November 16, 2008, Kelli¼s life was taken from her and she was taken from the many people who loved her. Our lives were blessed by the time we shared with her. She gave us many memories that get to be part of our tomorrows.

Traci, I will not be with you physically this weekend, but my heart has been with you since 6:15 Monday morning. An hour hasnt passed that I didnt find myself choked up, fighting back tears, and colleagues asking me if I was okay. You and your family have been there for us through many difficult and joyous times. It wasnt always apparent to you how much you helped us, but your familys faith is an inspiration to all. I can only begin to comprehend your loss and pain. I hope we can help to shoulder some small amount. I was fortunate to have a glimpse of what a wonderful girl Kelli had become. She was a reflection of you and your family. We love you all deeply. You are always in our thoughts and prayers.

I did do not know your family, nor did I know Kelli. She looks like an absolutely delightful child and I am so certain she was a joy. I can only imagine the grief you suffering, and I am so sorry for your pain. Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair and there is no reasonable explanation for God to allow things to happen. We always think "this happens to other people, not me".... I wish I had special words to touch your hearts, I wish I knew you well enough to reach out and dry all of your tears, I wish I could give you the hands of time, to turn back and fix all this.... but I don't. But know that someone is praying for you, someone who will look at her own 7 year old daughter when she is picked up after school, and be reminded of what a gift she is.. My heartfelt sympathy for you Traci. May your family comfort and love you during the many hard times ahead.. God bless you all!
