ORTEGEL, Peter R.
Paw Paw
Peter passed away Tuesday evening, January 6, 2009 at Bronson Select Specialty Hospital in Kalamazoo. Peter was born January 21, 1928 in Chicago, IL the son of the late John W. and Magdalen (Pietsch) Ortegel. Peter attended a seminary in Illinois and also attended the University of Notre Dame. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and was a greeter, usher and security staff at various Notre Dame sporting events. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Paw Paw, Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly #0522, Van Buren County Sheriff Reserve officer, Life member of the Van Buren County Sheriff Posse, was an avid golfer, bowler and spent many hours in volunteer work. On April 16, 1993 in Paw Paw, Peter was united in marriage to Peggy Weaver who survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Peter R. (Karen) Ortegel Jr. of Harden, MT, Kevin Ortegel of Rogersville, TN, Kenneth (Anne) Ortegel of Cedar Springs, MI and Jacqueline Ortegel of Vicksburg; step-daughters, Robin (Tim) Owsiany and Tammy Palmer both of Paw Paw; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Bernadette (Paul) Hayes of WI and Sister Mary Lou Ortegel; sister-in-law, Carlotte Ortegel of Chicago; brother-in-law, John Parrott; many nieces and nephews; special adopted daughter, Marcie Parker and her children, Blake and Chase. He was preceded in death by his first wife, AnnaMae and a daughter, Mary K. Ortegel; 2 brothers, Jack and Kenneth; 2 sisters, Dolorita Parrott and Sister Marie Ortegel. Family will receive friends Friday 5-8 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw where a vigil service will be held Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church, Paw Paw with Rev. Fr. Robert F. Creagan celebrant. Interment will follow in Arlington Hill Cemetery, Bangor. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or St. Marys Church.
