MELNYK, Jon D.
Of Mattawan
Jon passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the home of his son, after a lengthy illness. He was born September 28, 1948 in Mt. Clemens, MI, the son of Titus and Colleen (Lee) Melnyk. Jon was a Viet Nam Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps, receiving the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He was employed with Kalamazoo Electric before starting his own business, City Lights Electric. Jon was a member of the Home Builders Association and was an electrical inspector for Almena Township. On May 30, 1976, in Kalamazoo, Jon was united in marriage to Charlene Fry, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Nicholas Melnyk of Mattawan, Matthew Crosser of Ann Arbor and Beverly (John) Montague of Mattawan; 3 grandchildren, Zachary and Grace Montague and Benjamin Crosser; his sister, Linda and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Terry and Gerald. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Friday, June 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. Those attending should assemble in the cortege area by 11:15 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the Grand Rapids Veterans Administration Hospital. Arrangements by Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
