Elise died May 3, 2009 at Sojourner House Assisted Living in Oshtemo, MI. She was born December 3, 1915, in McNeill, AR, the daughter of the late Arthur and Nobie (Adkins) Hunt. Elise received a B.A. from Henderson State Teachers College and an M.A. from Louisiana State Teachers College. She left Arkansas to live in New York and worked in broadcasting. After marring Charles Avery she taught American Citizenship to the Foreign Born at Hull House in Chicago. Later, she was an elementay6 teacher in Harvey, IL. After retiring to Encinitas, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Scripts Hospital. She loved reading, knitting, quilting and traveling. On August 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to Charles Avery who preceded her in death. She is survived by he sons and spouses, Craig and Mary Ann (Orlando) Avery of Montgomery, OH and Chad and Sue Avery of Paw Paw, MI; grandchildren, Justin (Kim), Aaron and Ethan Avery of Paw Paw and Elizabeth of Montgomery. Cremation has taken place. A family memorial service was held in Pittsfield, Cemetery, Pittsfield, OH where she will rest next to her husband. Memorial contributions may be made to Scripp Institution of Oceanography, San Diego, CA. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Adams Funeral Home, Paw Paw.
