Just back from Terlingua where Kelly and I enjoyed times together...he was in my thoughts constantly. I'd like to offer a tune I penned that keeps Kelly in my thoughts. As the Crow flies, headed out west Ghost Town's big sky seemed to suit him best. All that rugged beauty, red dirt under feet. He's up before first light cause that "weren't no time for sleep". With camera in hand, he's like a goat in those hills. Trying to find a balance with last night's thrills. By noon day heat, with the sun over head All the good light's gone but his smart card's fed. He's just a simple man searching for the good light. He'd put paint on palette, hold palette for brush take brush to canvas - never in a rush. for beauty, memories, perhaps the sake of a tale he'd say "it's yours if you like it" cause nothings for sale. His fiddle'l be missed and his child like humor gone may the sound of his banjo linger on and on and on He never took life for granted and he'd say "don't you make no fuss" Ahh, Kelly's spirit's big enough for all of us. He's just a simple man searching for the good light. He was a simple man and it was a good life.

I thought it was just last month I spoke to Kelly, and now realize it has been nearly a year. I am shocked he is gone. I have lost an old friend, and we have all lost a wise and gentle soul. My condolences to his family.

Kelly, Oh my, what a guy. I remember him eating chicken with such precision, he could debone a checken leg with a knife and fork!! It was a joy to watch, so talented with his hands. And his ART, incredible. We are so happy to hear he was involved in the Texas music scene, it's something he wanted to do when moving south. And like others have said, he could discuss anything, so many interests and skills. We will miss him.

In the short time that I had the pleasure of knowing Kelly, he became a great friend. I am better for having been in his company.

Although he has been gone from Washington for a long time, I often thought of him, since his presence seemed to stick around the old Good Earth building. I'm sorry to hear about his death, and feel honored to have known such a gentle and creative spirit. I will remember him! Love and condolences to his family. -- Donna Rushing (formerly Swicegood), Bellingham, WA

I am Kelly's cousin, and we spent a lot of time together growing up. He had so many tallents, but was expecially gifted artist. His scrimshaw has been and will be an insiration for many people. He was a kind, gentle, generous indiviual, and I will miss him terribly. Here are a few examples og his scrimshaw: http://alstuff.blogspot.com/

Kelly was a luminary - one of the great and admired folk heroes down through the years. All who have known him will carry his memory forward throughout their lives. I know I will.

Kelly was my college roommate and best friend; among his other talents and accomplishments (far too numerous to mention) he was a gifted linguist (Latin, German and Spanish) and musician. We just spent two happy months together in Kerrville. I have never known a more generous man. He shall be sorely missed by all he knew and loved. Of my own grief I cannot bring myself to write. Comprimere in aeturnum, Kelly! Joel

My deepest condolences to the Family of Kelly Mulford.Although I never had the opportunity to meet him I know and have admired his artwork for many , many years. Other than the love and kindnesses we leave behind, we hopefully leave a bit of ourselves---Mr. Mulford certainly did that with his beautiful artwork. God Bless...

Kelly was a dear friend. We spent hundreds of hours playing music together over the past six years (most recently a few months ago). I will remember the twinkle in his eye, his quick wit, his love of the arts, the mandolin he built, his paintings. He was respected as a musician by all that sat in and played music with him. Kelly's passing is a real loss for all the lives he touched along the way, and he will be missed, and too often recalled in the many songs and melodies we played together (where he just beamed and shined playing his fiddle). Jean and I send along our heartfelt condolences to the family.
