1920 - 2009

Irene  Shuptrine SimsIrene was born at Camp Pershing, Texas on October 28, 1920 and went to be with Jesus on June 25, 2009 at 4:37pm surrounded by her loving family.

Irene was a very special mother to 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls. She is survived by daughters and son-in-laws: Dorothy and Jerry Burk of Lumberton, Sarah and Doyle Oliver of Pollok, and daughter Glenda Sims of Silsbee; sons and daughter-in-laws: Glen and Rosie Sims of Garrison, James and Linda Sims of Silsbee, Eddie and Penny Sims of Vidor, Jerry and Jennifer Sims of Colmesneil, J.L. and Dee Sims, Jr. of Leonard, and son Roy Sims of Silsbee; 2 sisters: Cora Woodard and Josephine Rivers, both of Silsbee: 2 sister-in-laws: Lessie Brown and husband Tegart of Kountze, and Hazel Shuptrine of Liberty: 44 Grandchildren, 40 Great- Grandchildren, 12 Great-Great-grandchildren with twins on the way, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene married J.L. Sims, Sr. on April 18, 1936. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1973. She is also preceded in death by her oldest son Jimmy Dale Sims, both parents Joseph and Minnie Shuptrine, and one brother Ellis Shuptrine.

Irene loved her family and church, and she felt a special calling to visit the sick in her church and community. She was a member of United Pentecostal Church for 63 years. "Nanny" entertained her children, grandchildren, and her family and friends with a good game of jacks or any kind of board game. She was always cooking donuts, peanut brittle, jams and jellies, and enjoyed sharing them with everyone.

Visitation for Irene Sims will be at Farmer Funeral Home in Silsbee on Saturday, June 27, 2009 from 6-9. Services will be held at Abundant Life United Pentecostal Church on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at 2pm. Graveside Services to follow at Resthaven Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Garth Brown, Johnny Brown, Lee Burk, Weldon Flowers, Wayne Lee, Joseph Oliver, Edward Sims, and Travis Sims.

Memorial donations can be made to the Resthaven Cemetery Fund P.O. Box 805 Silsbee, Texas 77656

May God bless the memory of this great lady of the faith. I remember her from my earliest recollections as a faithful member of the church in Silsbee and for her wonderful walk with God.
