Dorothy Hayes Akers

Dorothy Elberta Hayes Akers (96) of Louisa, widow of James William Akers, Jr., died Friday March 16, 2007 at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa.

Dorothy Akers was born August 11, 1910 at Charley, Kentucky to

L.S. Hayes, M.D. and Bertha Spencer Hayes. She was a former Lawrence County school teacher and was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College (now Eastern Kentucky University). Survivors are a sister, Pearl H. Greer of Louisa, two sons, James Scott Akers of Frankfort, KY and Larry Borders Akers of Helena, Montana, a granddaughter, Leslie Renee Ray of Louisville, and a great-granddaughter, Kayla Mary Ray of Louisville, KY.

Dorothy Akers was a former resident of Stone, Kentucky, Matewan, WV, Coburn, VA and Naugatuck, WV. She was a member of Stone Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Louisa.

Services were conducted at Wilson Funeral Home at 1:00 pm on Tuesday March 20th with Rev. Arthur Honican presiding. Burial will follow in Pinehill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to the First United Methodist Church Louisa, Kentucky.
