1906 - 2012
 Jose Maria Rivero passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his daughter and son-in-law on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in Clear Lake area of Houston, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00p.m. in the Hillcrest Baptist Church on Friday November 9, 2012 with interment to follow at the West Oaks Cemetery in Jasper, TX. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Forest Oaks. Jose, known as "Papi" by everyone had just celebrated his 106th birthday on October 2nd. Papi was on October 2, 1906 in Rio Cuarto Cordoba, Argentina. He went to work for the Argentine National Railroad when he was 16 and retired after 47 years as the Depot Master. He married his beloved wife Mercedes Rodera in July 1937, and they became parents of their loving daughter Joaquina in 1938. He moved to the US from Argentina in 1980 with his wife Mercedes, and lived in Jasper from that time on. Papi Became a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in 1981 and helped serve in Mexican Mission La Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana where he would go and minister in the local jails and prisons. In 1997 he became a US citizen and was proud to exercise his right to vote in every election since that time. Papi lived a long and beautiful life full of love and servitude with a deep and abiding faith in his creator. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him was truly blessed. He was preceded in death by his much loved wife Mercedes. Survivors include his daughter Joaquinq Rivero and husband L.E. "Ed" Perry. Four Grandchildren Joseph Perry, Rita Perry Dougharty, Linda Perry Mclemore, and Ronald E. Perry. Seven Great Grandchildren Collin Perry, Elena Perry, Katheryn Perry, Grant Dougharty, Cara Dougharty, Heather Coe Adams, and Judge Perry Coe. So sorry for ur loss. My parents send their condolences. Mom calls him a blessed man. Along with his beautiful wife, Mechita. They are now together in heaven! They were such a blessing to our family since 1972. Helping my parents when they first came to Jasper. They will forever be our hearts. We love you!!

Joaquina...I was so sorry to hear about your Dad. I have fond memories of him and his visits to the clinic. He was very blessed to have had such a long, wonderful life with a very loving and caring family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Dear Ed & Joaquina,
Oh how we will ALL miss Papi. What an extraordinary man he was.
I have moved back to Jasper following the passing of my husband. I hope he & Papi are fishing in Heaven as we speak!
I hope to attend the funeral and see you both again.
