 Clifton "Sarge" Bryant 87 of Jasper died at his home on Wednesday December 5, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday December 7, 2012 at Forest Oaks Chapel with interment to follow at the Homer Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday Dec. 6, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Bertie Bryant, they were married Nov. 27, 1950 in Angola, Indiana. He served in the Armed Forces for 23 years, retiring in 1969 before he began delivering the mail in Jasper. He ate lunch every day at Texas Charlies where everyone knew him. Employed by the United States Post office for 18 years and retired in 1987. Loved to deer hunt and always had plenty of stories to tell "about the one that got away". Long time member of Peachtree Baptist Church where he worked with Bible School and was know as "Paw Paw Bryant" by all of the children. Preceded in death by parents Ollie J. and Lula Royals Bryant brothers Ollie M. Bryant and John Henry Bryant sisters Jewel Coffman and Willa Rhea Pruitt a grandaughter Mary E. Bradley. Survived by daughters, Gwen Withrow and husband Robert of Nederland, TX. Sandra Ludwig and husband Mark of Bridge City, TX. Sister Atrelle Smith Bronson, TX. Sister in law Shirley Bryant of Jasper, TX. Grandchildren Lisa Gilbert and husband David of Jasper, Rhonda Tyson and husband William of Burkeville, Shannon Reck and wife Noel of Galveston, Amy Reck of Louisiana, Clifton Reck of San Marcus and Robert C. Withrow of Nederland. Great Grandchildren John R. Bradley, Phillip C. Bradley, Lauren Bradley, Haylie Bradley, Mason Meredith, Jacob Gilbert, Savanah Tyson, Waylon Tyson, Emillie Reck, Ellie Reck and Sarah Reck all of Florida. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Peachtree Baptist Church building fund. Condolences can be posted at www.forestoaksofjasper.com

I absolutely loved Sarge, he took me squirel hunting several times as a young boy, he taught me gun safety and taught me to cook squirel with carrots and potatoes in a crock pot. I remember him eating at the restaurant everyday, he was a great man and really good friend, RIP Sarge.
