Ruth Alice Messer
PORTSMOUTH-Ruth Alice Messer, 95, of Portsmouth, passed away Friday, June 11, 2021 at SOMC Hospice Center in Portsmouth. Ruth was born June 19, 1925 in Scioto County, Ohio to the late Clarence Weaver and Cora Courtright Weaver. Ruth was retired as a Nursing Assistant for 25 years from local hospitals. Ruth was a member of Vernon and Porter Senior Citizens; she loved gardening and her flowers, she was a very kind and generous person who loved her family and her Lord. In addition to her parents Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Messer, March 2, 2000, whom she married August 9, 1941 in Lyra, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Ronald, Walter and Clifford Weaver and Marjorie Chamberlain, Alma Grant and Arlene Speakman; two grandsons, Terry Reeder and Jim Hester and a son-in law, Bernard Hester. Ruth is survived by two sons, Gary (Mary) Messer of Portsmouth and Neil (Beth) Messer of Sciotodale and a daughter, Monna Hester that lived with Ruth in Sciotodale; eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and ten great, great grandchildren.
Services for Ruth will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Dan Widdig officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:00-8:00 pm Monday, June 14, 2021 and one hour before the service on Tuesday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to SOMC Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Potters House in Sciotoville.
