Imogene “Jean” Mays
PORTSMOUTH-Imogene “Jean” Mays, 81, of Portsmouth, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at her home. Jean was born November 28, 1940 in Scioto County to the late Harry Russell Ruark and “Ollie” Relda Imogene Coburn Ruark. Jean had been employed as a Pharmacy Assistant at the former Rink’s Department Store. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband James Berman Mays on July 20, 1976. Jean was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Grubbs, Harry Grubbs, Tom Ruark and James Ruark and two sisters, Martha Boling and Vada Gillum. Jean is survived by a son, James Russell Mays (Denise); a daughter, Franki Mays; six grandchildren, Melissa Rose, James Russell Mays, Jr., Kaylee Schobelack, Stephanie Thayer, Alex England and McKenzie England and eleven great grandchildren, Langston, Tatum, Payton, RC, Bristol, Kendall, Paisley, Mason, Colt, Jase and Rowyn.
Services for Jean will be 6:00 pm Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Zack Conkel officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, 4:00 pm until the 6:00 pm service time. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Sierra’s Haven. So sad to hear about Aunt Jean, I remember she was always there to help when mom and dad needed it. Wish I could come down. Praying for everyone during this difficult time. Love you all. God Bless
