Lawrence Daniel WilliamsLawrence Daniel Williams

February 12, 1934 – April 11, 2022

WHEELERSBURG-Lawrence Daniel Williams, Larry, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on the morning of April 11, 2022. A devoted husband, father and friend, he was cherished and loved deeply by those who knew him.

Born to the late Gilbert and Margaret Williams at home on Gephart Road in Scioto Furnace, Larry was one of eight children and attended Portsmouth East High School in Sciotoville before graduating from Stivers High School in Dayton.

He and his loving wife Sue (Vernal Ann Jackson), were married on September 4, 1971, spending many beautiful years together at their home near South Webster and POLO Park in Davenport, Florida.

This past fall they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

He is preceded in death by siblings Russ Garey, Flora Holsinger, Velma Parker, Doreen DeHart, Virginia Lute, Margie Marion and Ralph Williams; daughter Dana; and grandson Joey Skaggs.

He is survived by his wife Sue and children Steve, Gil (Johnda), Becky (Clifford) Bowling, Scott and Jack (Mindy); grandchildren Nikki, Kristin, Angie, Tanya, Denise, Dana, Daniel, Aaron, Jacky, Brooke, Alexa, Tyler, Jackson, Geneva and Addie; great grandchildren Gracie, Zane, Brooke, Christian, Dillon, Dominick, Noah, Madeline, Asher and Myriam.

He began his career with Standard Register Company of Dayton in 1952 and retired in 1999 from the United States Enrichment Corporation in Piketon. Larry was active in the community as a school board member for the Bloom-Vernon Local School District and the board of the South Central Ohio Education Service Center in Portsmouth. Additionally, he volunteered with many civic groups in South Webster including the Lions Club, Cub Scouts, Little League and as a member of Christ United Methodist served as a Sunday school teacher.

Growing up, Larry spent a lot of time in the woods working with his father, a logger. From that experience he developed an appreciation of hard work and the outdoors and a deep love of trees. An amateur arborist, he loved spending time in his orchard tending to his apple and peach trees. He enjoyed reading and researching history and tracing his family genealogy back to his Welsh and French heritage. This time of year he hunted mushrooms in the woods and talked about Reds baseball. Above all else, he loved his family and extended family. There were no strangers in his home and he enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors.

Services for Lawrence will be 1:00 pm Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Becky Bowling officiating. Interment will be in South Webster Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, April 15, 2022 and one hour before the 1:00 pm service on Saturday. I’m so sorry to learn of Larry’s passing. Gil and I were best friends as kids and I spent a great deal of time in the Williams’ house. I also have fond memories of Larry as my Webelos pack leader. He was a good man who will be greatly missed. Unfortunately, I’m recovering from recent surgery and I won’t be able to make it to visitation or the funeral. Please know that your family is in my thoughts and prayers. Barney

I am so sorry for your loss. Lawrence was my classmate at East High School. He sat just behind me in Algebra class and I never would have made it without him, He fed me answers. He was funny, so very kind to me and I am honored to say he was my friend.

I was so broken hearted to hear of Uncle Lawrence's passing, not only my favorite one,but the best hugs I ever had, Mom's little brother and the last of the kids. He will be missed and remembered as being one of the kindest and generous people I've had the honor to call family.. Aunt Sue and kids and grandkids, I am so sorry for your loss and know how much he loves you and will miss you as well. I wish I could get back to Ohio for his funeral and know you will all stay in my prayers
