Irma Jean SwitalskiIrma Jean Switalski

WHEELERSBURG-Irma Jean Switalski, 74, of Wheelersburg made her journey to heaven on Friday, April 23, 2022 after an acute illness that saw her in the ICU at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, WV for over two weeks. She is already sorely missed by her husband, John Switalski of Wheelersburg, daughter, Dawn Blackwell and granddaughter, Madison Dunham both of Bellville, IL; two sisters, Connie Hendershott (Pat) of Wellston, OH and Kim Carver of Lebanon, OH; sister-in-law, Law Anne Switalski Turner Rigdon of Greer, SC; brother-in-law, Joe of FL and several dearly loved nieces and nephews. Irma was a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar. Her greatest love was in teaching, where she worked at Wheelersburg High School for many years. She greatly enjoyed doing the class plays and special foreign language fair activities with the kids. Irma was also active in Portsmouth Little Theater, where she directed and acted in numerous plays. She was a long-time organist for Wheelersburg United Methodist Church. Irma started playing the organ at church when she was just in high school. Irma also enjoyed fellowship with the members of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Retirement Group. Scioto County Retired Teachers Organization and Portsmouth Business and Professional Women Organization. Irma was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy (Piatt) Wolfe and Donald Ralph Wolfe Sr. and one brother Donald (Rusty) Wolfe, Jr. all of Sciotoville and a special aunt, Norma Prior of McDermott, whom she dearly loved.

Services for Irma will be 11:00 am Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Wheelersburg United Methodist Church with her long-time friend Reverend Perry Prosch officiating. The family will receive friends 6:00-9:00 pm Wednesday at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg and at the church one hour before the 11:00 am service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations to Wheelersburg Methodist Church if they so choose. Irma counted many friends and much support over the years from her church family whom she kept in her prayers daily. Condolences to the family may be made at www.harrison-pyles.com.
