Julia LaVaughn Riggs Cunningham
WHEELERSBURG-Julia LaVaughn Riggs Cunningham, 84, of Wheelersburg, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at KDMC in Ashland, KY. Julia was born July 12, 1938 in Scioto County to the late William Henry Riggs and Bessie Ruth Haywood Riggs. Julia was a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church and was a Den Mother for scouts, a member of the Portsmouth Mental Health Board and a Kentucky Colonel. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by six sisters, Dorothy (Paul) Oberling, Jessie (Paul) Staker, Helen (Hilton) Hickox, Garnet (Lemon) Gulker and JoAnn (Hank) Martin; a brother, Paul Riggs and a sister, Mary Riggs who died at birth. Julia is survived by two sons, Michael Ray (Kimberly) Russell and Robert Lee Cunningham, Jr.; two grandchildren, Michael (Summer) Russell II and Stephanie (Doug) McClure and seven great grandchildren, Maren, Logan, Caleb, Katie, Bristol, Javen and Peyton.
A Mass of Christian burial for Julia will be 12:00 noon Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Peter Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the church Tuesday 10:30 to 11:30 am with recitation of the rosary at 11:30 am and mass at noon. Following the service there will be a mercy meal at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg.
