Joseph Anthony Thieken, 81, of New Boston, OH, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital, Dayton, OH. He was born March 22, 1945, in Wheelersburg, OH to the late Edward and Magdalene (Montavon) Thieken.
Joseph was a 1963 graduate of Wheelersburg High School, after high school he joined the Ohio National Guard as a medic. He was a steel worker for Armco Steel Company until he retired. Joseph was an avid fisherman and fished several lakes around the area and in Canada. His greatest joy was being around his family and spending time with them. Joseph was of the Catholic faith and used to sing in the choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Portsmouth, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Francis Thieken and two sisters: Mary Boll and Sister Annie Thieken.
Those left to celebrate his life are a son: Phil Thieken; two brothers: Lawrence Thieken and Michael Thieken; four sisters: Beatrice Holback, Mildred Correll, Burnadette Hacker and Monica Acox.
A funeral service will be 12:00pm, Monday, August 3, 2026, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Wheelersburg, OH with Deacon Terry Acox officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter’ Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home, 11623 Gallia Pike, Wheelersburg, OH and Monday from 11:00am until the time of the service at the church.
