1902 - 2003
Pearl Phillips Hackworth, age 100 of Logan, WV departed this life on New Year's day 2003. She was born in Pike County, KY on April 4, 1902, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Martha C. Shumate Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband the late R. L. Hackworth with whom they co-owned Hackworth Jewelry Store for 59 years. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Maude Steele and Gertrude Wheeler and several brothers. She was a member of the Nighbert United Memorial Methodist Church of Logan for over 80 years, a member of the Eastern Star, and Logan Woman's Club. She is survived by one daughter; Martha Shaffer of Sturgis, KY; 1 granddaughter, Brenda Shaffer Hart and 1 grandson, James Eric Shaffer, and 2 great-grandchildren, Kelsey Shaffer and Tyler Shaffer. Services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the Nighbert United Memorial Methodist Church in Logan at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Richard Justice. The burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV. Friends may call Friday from 4-8 at the church and on Saturday from 9:30 until 11:00. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Nighbert United Memorial Methodist Church in Logan, WV. The pallbearers are: Eric O'Briant, David Whitman, Bernie Sidebottom, Eric Shaffer, David Hart, and Jay Adkins. The Honorary Pallbearers include: Edward Eiland, Fred Notchie, J. T.
