Clovis Eugene Ferguson, 75, of Salt Rock, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 28, 2025. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord, his community, and his country. He was born February 23, 1950, in Huntington, W.Va., a son of the late, Delbert Ferguson and Ida Perry Morrison. He is also preceded in death by one brother, Ezra Linville Ferguson and by his father-in-law, Jack Ferguson. He is survived by his wife, Connie Ferguson; one daughter, Amy Ennis (Darrell); one son, Jason Ferguson (Jennifer); two sisters, Debra Carter and Sandy Wisniewski (Charlie); four brothers, Delbert Ferguson Jr. (Pamela), Tilmon Ferguson (Patricia), Leslie Ferguson and Larry Dale Ferguson (Jan); six grandchildren, Joseph Ferguson (Alyssa), Heather Ennis, Andy Ennis, Caleb Ferguson, Carlee Ferguson, Cambrie Ferguson; eight great grandchildren, Ada-Marie Rose, Denzil Adkins, Torsten Ennis, Bellamy Collins, Casey Collins, Brooklynn Jeffers, Addy Hester and Rylee Ferguson; and by his mother-in-law, Helen Ferguson. From the beginning, Eugene was the youngest of his four brothers. He frequently moved during his early years, having attended nine different elementary schools. Settling down during his middle and high school years, he attended Barboursville Junior High, Salt Rock Junior High, and Barboursville High School. At age 17, he was saved, which he always said was the best decision of his life. After graduation, he joined the Army, faithfully serving his country in Vietnam. He also married his wife of 53 years, Connie Ferguson, whom he loved to call “Connie Jean.” Once his military service concluded, they settled down in Salt Rock, WV, which became their home to this day. He was a devoted father to his two children, Amy and Jason, who he so profoundly loved. He was a career member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 521, and even after his retirement, he persistently helped his community through his profession. Eugene cherished his community dearly, having been a member of Bloomingdale-Salem Baptist Church and Salt Rock Community Church since the age of 17. He found his passions in coaching sports and sharing the word of God. He began coaching church league basketball at Bloomingdale, mentoring countless kids in the game and in the word of God. He continued to coach Salt Rock buddy basketball, softball, baseball, and soccer, while also taking an active role in Bloomingdale Awana and Salt Rock Elementary Good News Club. He treasured spending time with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, known fondly to them as “Paw Paw.” Furthermore, Eugene was an avid Elvis fan, often dressing up to impersonate his favorite musician. When he wasn’t Elvis, he would appear at Salt Rock Elementary as Santa Claus, passing out gifts to students. He devotedly cheered on Marshall University Football and Basketball, loving to attend the games with his family and friends. Above all, Eugene let his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ shine through, seeking to share the good news with everyone he met. The funeral service will be conducted at Noon Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the Salt Rock Community Church with Pastors Jason Salmons and Matt Hicks officiating.
