1947 - 2026

Nelson Glenn Edwards, age 78, passed away January 30, 2026, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. He was born February 4, 1947, in Culloden, West Virginia, a son of the late William (Bill) and Helen Carter Edwards. Nelson graduated Milton High School in 1965 and went to work for Marathon Petroleum pumping barges on the river and soon transferred into the plant at Ashland, Ky. There he would form memorable relationships with co-workers as an Operator and Pipefitter. He married his beloved wife Betty, in 1968, and together raised two children Merry and Will. Nelson was also a member of the 26th St. Church of Christ. Nelson was known for his sense of humor, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness. He was always joking and laughing while sitting with his front porch crew. Nelson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty; his children Will (Bonnie) Edwards, and Merry Browning; grandchildren Jarah, Jake, Garrett, and Emmerson: great grandchildren Javen, Kade, and Avery; sister Patricia Howard; brother-in-law Raymond Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Carter Edwards and sister Claudia Nelson. Services will be private to immediate family per Nelson’s request. Nelson’s kindness, humor, and laughter will always be remembered by the ones who knew and loved him. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is assisting the family with arrangements. Nelson was a very special person. He helped me through one of the toughest times in my life and made me feel seen and loved. He was just being himself and that is what makes him so special to me. I am sending prayers to Betty and their family. I am grateful for Nelson and Betty both for being so kind to me.
