John Henry Holcomb, age 85, of La Fayette, Georgia and formerly of Gallia County, died Tuesday evening August 21, 2007 at his residence. Born September 15, 1921 in Gallia County, he was the son of the late Elmer and Myrtle Shaw Holcomb. In addition to his parents he was preceded by two brothers, Clyde and Wesley Holcomb.
John was a World War II Army Veteran, having served in the Company C, 169th Engineer (combat) Battallion.
He was a 50 year member of the Operating Engineers, and retired from the Dravo Corp. of Pittsburgh. He was a member of Patriot Masonic Lodge, where he had received his 50 year pin.
John is survived by, his wife Barbara ‘Bobbie’ Wheeler Holcomb of La Fayette, a son, James Holcomb of Columbus, one brother, Lee Holcomb of Gallipolis, two sisters, Lillian Saunders and Annabelle Caldwell both of Gallipolis and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM. Saturday August 25, 2007 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood funeral home. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5-8 PM.
Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8:00 PM by Patriot Masonic Lodge.
Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans funeral Detail.
